Herbal Hair Growth Treatments
Herbal Hair Growth Treatments are perhaps the most popular treatment option that people will go for due to its accessibility in Singapore (these business are literally everywhere in Singapore). There are a number of top brands that have been around for decades in Singapore and we always see their advertisements about discounted trial session. But really just how effective are these treatments?
Herbal remedies for hair growth have been used for centuries and while we do agree that herbs like Ginseng, He Shou Wu, Aloe Vera etc may help to promote healthier hair growth, the research on how effective are these treatments to stimulate hair growth is very limited.
In our practice, 9/10 clients are suffering from hair loss and 100% of them have given these treatments a go, even spending ten of thousands on them but still, they end up in our practice so you can tell already just how effective they are.
So Why are These Treatment Not Working for Them?
While hair loss can be caused by many different reasons like stress, ageing, hormonal imbalance. The most common type of hair loss that people have are actually due to genetics and that is your Male Pattern Hair Loss or Female Pattern Hair Loss. This nasty thing runs in the family and your DNA and unfortunately no herbs can stop them from happening and this is the main reason why herbal treatments don't work for you.
Topical Minoxidil To Delay Hair Loss
Minoxidil is a topical solution that is applied directly to the scalp and is used to treat male and female pattern baldness. It works by increasing blood flow to the hair follicles and stimulating hair growth. It is also what we would recommend our SMP clients to try the most well-known hair growth treatments and has been shown to be effective in many cases (Yes we believe in things that are back by real scientific/medical research).
However, minoxidil does come with potential side effect i.e. scalp irritation and more hair fall at the start of use. Rest assured that the hair that falls do grow back 3 to 6 months into the treatment and we strongly recommend to get your SMP done before starting your minoxidil treatment, if you have not already started it. But do note that while minoxidil is effective in delaying the progress on your hair loss, it is unlikely that your hair can go back to its original volume.
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) for "Hair Growth Effect"
We say "Hair Growth Effect" because there isn't actually any hair growth with SMP. While it is believed that SMP works just like microneedling for the scalp, SMP is usually done 3-5 times only to achieve the desired results. Since it is not a long term, regular treatment that one can do we do not promote its potential hair growth effect.
